The Unnoticed Corner - an NFTNYC Story

As an ambivert, I have the ability to be extroverted or introverted depending on my mood and current emotional state. Right before going to #NFTNYC I went through some personal situations that really strained me emotionally and made me re-evaluate the people I had in my inner circle. This definitely affected me emotionally during the trip and I tried my best to be social, positive, and meet as many people from #Web3 as I could. Part of me needed to heal though, from the trauma I had just been through at home. Something that has always healed me has been walking around alone and making photographs. Growing up in a non-safe household, I often had to tip toe around my house, trying my best to stay unnoticed. This technique has become invaluable in my ability to capture candid moments on the street without being noticed by the subject. Every once and a while someone notices me, but most of the time I remain unnoticed.

Menthol Moment

Walking down the street with my buddy Kavion Sabio, who is a fellow photographer himself, I noticed this older man lost in thought, smoking a cigarette. From the hip, I took a few photos and then we kept walking. When I finally looked at the photos later I was super happy with everything in this one and how unplanned the photograph was, added so much to it.

Moving Thoughts

When I was in NYC for #NFTNYC I actually stayed in New Jersey and not the city. The PATH stop I took home was right next to Washington Square park so I spent a couple nights walking around there photographing before I went home for the night. On one of those nights I noticed this skater coming towards me and wanted to try a classic panning shot. I did not expect it to come out and was very happy with the result.

Hidden Love

I was sitting on the subway, riding it about 6 stops, when we stopped at one of the platforms and this couple came in. They sat right across from me, and were completely captivated by each other. It was a street photography silver platter moment haha. I made a few photographs and then decided to show them to the couple. They smiled and said it was a cool photo. I asked if they wanted me to send them the photo and she said "No that's okay" and I chuckled then went about my day. Completely changed how I looked at the "couple" for the rest of my ride haha.

Yin & Yang

Shot from the hip as I was walking by, I just barely missed the bottom of their shoes and missed a perfect frame. I decided to put this one in anyways because I love the juxtaposition between the two guys and how one has light clothing on and one has dark yet one has tattoos and the other is covered.

The Witnesses

Sitting on the train, the doors opened and these two Jehovah's Witnesses walked into the train and stood right next to where I was sitting. I turned my head, already having my camera in hand, and made this photograph. I showed them the photo and they were mind blown haha. I ended up getting their contact information and emailed them the photograph after I got back home.

Protest Love

On June 24, the Supreme Court rocked the nation by announcing its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and eliminate federal abortion rights. I made this photo on June 24th, at the protests that took place at Washington Square Park. I noticed these two fellow protestors embracing each other, comforting each other after they had been stripped of their rights.

Rest Stop

Walking through Washington Square park before going into the city for some NFT galleries, I noticed these skaters taking a moment to chill and relax on this hot day. I decided to snap a hip shot while walking by and was super happy with how this one came out.

Stoop Kids

Ever since I was a kid I have been a huge fan of Hey Arnold. Stoops always reminded me of the stoop kid episode and how you truly never grow out of hanging out on the stoop. Caught these two guys chillin on the stoop and shot this one from the hip as I was walking by.

Lunch Break

While I was in NYC I spent a lot of time walking around the train stations that I ended up at. I was lucky to have ended up at the WTC stop and decided to walk around a little bit and make some photos. I went to the overlook and took the classic shot that everyone takes up there, but then wanted to do something different, a technique I have been developing over years of traveling. I noticed these people sitting and resting above me on the ledge outside of the stop. I just felt so much peace at this moment and wanted to capture that forever.
